Activ and genU merge in sector-leading transformation

We are excited to announce that Activ and genU will merge in what will be a sector-leading transformation of national scale, bringing more programs and services to West Australians living with disability.

A merged organisation will bring:

  • Enhanced services and better outcomes for customers
  • A wider range of career opportunities for staff
  • Significant shared learnings, expanded programs, and efficiencies
  • Greater sector influence as one of the five largest NDIS providers in Australia
  • A stronger financial position to ensure ongoing sustainability.

Activ and genU are closely aligned in both values and history. Both organisations were founded by a group of parents wanting more for their children living with disability. Activ was established in WA in 1951 and genU in Geelong in 1952 – jointly accounting for almost 150 years of experience.

We are also both driven by missions around enabling each person we support to live the life they choose.

genU already has a presence in WA through their disability employment services arm MatchWorks and registered training organisation genU Training.  The merger will help to build on the quality services already offered and create more opportunities for our customers, their families and carers.

Both parties are committed to ensuring continuity of customer supports, and the wellbeing of our customers and employees is the primary focus throughout the transition process.

There will be no change to frontline staff, current funded services and supports. This means, our customers will still receive the same supports from the same people.

The merger will bring together, and optimise, the best of both organisations and increase opportunities available for our customers to live the life they choose.

Activ will become a part of genU from 1 July 2024, yet will still operate as Activ throughout the transition with continued local WA leadership.

The full details of the transition are still unfolding and will be implemented progressively over a 12-month period.

We look forward to leaning into our collective strengths to make an even greater positive impact to the lives of our customers and staff.
