Tracey’s scrapbook is filled with special memories, from family camping trips to birthday celebrations, Christmas lunches and adventures with friends.
She spends time making artwork and writing mementos alongside photos she has taken to create her scrapbook of memories, and is happy to show visitors her designs and recalls some of her favourites to share.
Scrapbooking is one of many hobbies Tracey enjoys at home. Living in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) with supports from Activ Foundation, Tracey says she chooses what she does at home, knowing Activ’s supports are right there if she needs them.
SDA homes are designed to enable people living with disability greater independence at home, through spacious designs, assistive technology and accessible features.
“I like listening to music and watching TV or DVDs… I know the Activ staff are at home if I need them,” Tracey said.
Tracey uses accessible features of the home in her day-to-day life, independently making her breakfast and coffee in the kitchen, saying it is easy to get around with lots of space.
“I use my walker around the house now. I don’t have any problems getting around, there’s lots of room. There’s no steps in the house. And the bathroom is easy to move in.”
she added.
Tracey said her transition from living alone to sharing with two housemates was a positive experience, with regular catch ups that helped the three of them to get to know one another.
“We met beforehand a few times to see if we were a good fit, and then I made the decision to move in,” she said.
Two years on, Tracey and her housemates are enjoying sharing their home. They regularly have lunch and dinner together at home, relax with a cuppa in the outdoor living space, and also like to head out shopping or to the
movies together.
“I’ve been really lucky moving in here. I’ve been very fortunate to find this place… and to live with good people in a quiet area.”
